A General Election has been called and Polling Day will be on July 10.
The Parliament has also been dissolved, and Nomination Day has been set for June 30.
Under the law, Polling Day at any general election shall be a public holiday. All employees covered by the Employment Act are entitled to paid public holidays, including the public holiday on Polling Day.
If an employee is required to work on Polling Day, he is entitled to an extra day’s salary for the day’s work, or be given another day off.
Employees not required to work on that day are also entitled to one day off in lieu, or be given one day’s pay, as per other public holidays falling on a Saturday.
2.65M S’poreans Will Be Voting
An estimated 2.65 million Singaporeans will be eligible to vote in this upcoming election, marking an increase of over 59,000 voters when the registers were last revised in April last year.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be leading the People’s Action Party (PAP) into battle for the fourth time as Prime Minister.

This general election will be deciding who will govern Singapore for the next five years, and ultimately help set the country’s direction for the next few decades.
