Are You Applying Your Skincare Properly?

A common theme in the industry, is the amount of individuals who are layering their skin care products in the wrong order. It all comes down to education.
Here's our guidelines for you:
1. Cleanse
Because we all know how important it is to remove old makeup, dirt, grime etc. from your skin, right? It is one of the MOST important steps that you should be doing 2x a day! Removing all the nasties, will allow your products to penetrate better, so they can do their jobs!

2. Tone/Facial Mist
When it comes to this step, make sure you are using a toner/facial mist that helps promote healthy skin and one that the ingredients make sense. What we mean by this? Make sure your toner does not contain alcohol (Alcohols likeethanol, isopropyl alcohol, alcohol denat, and methanol are used to make products feel lighter, help other ingredients to penetrate your skin, and as a preservative. These alcohols can cause dryness, irritation and breakouts.) Using a toner can balance your pH level within your skin and also help remove excess oils, so you can apply your products to a cleaner canvas.
3. Serums
This is our favourite step in the skincare game because when it comes to serums, they are the powerhouse within the skincare routine. Serums are generally formulated with active ingredients, which are higher concentrations and the molecules are smaller so they can penetrate deeper into your skin's layers. A majority of serums on the market, are water-based and very lightweight and that's what gives them the ability to absorb easily and quickly.

4. Eye Care
The one place we forget the most - our eyes! The eyes are the #1 area on our face that shows early signs of aging being the skin around our eyes is the thinnest. When we smile, which you should be doing more than frowning, we are constantly creating the wrinkles in our eye area (smile lines). Yes, it isn't a bad thing, but you can also help improve that area by keeping it hydrated. Now, when we say apply to eye area, we actually mean the orbital bone area/temple/above eyebrows. You DO NOT want to apply directly on your eyelids and the reasoning is pretty straight-forward. When products are formulated, they have the potential to also have active ingredients, oils, etc. and when you are applying that directly to your eyelid, you are asking for eye irritation. Throughout the day, gravity takes effect which pulls your skincare products down your face. I know, it sounds strange, but it is true. Do you ever notice that your eyes may get a little cloudy, or irritated by the end of the day?
This is because your products are naturally being pulled down and this is why you avoid direct contact with your eye. You also only need minimal product around your eye area, so yes, your eye products come in a smaller size, however that is because it will last longer.

5. Moisturizer/Facial Oils
This is the last step - the finishing touches to your routine. Applying a facial oil and/or moisturizer helps lock in your products and creates that safe and beneficial barrier to allow your active products to do their job. Yes, moisturizers and facial oils have bigger molecules, which a majority of the product sits on the skin - there is a small percentage that actually penetrates enough to give your skin the love it deserves.
When we recommend a moisturizer, we also suggest a facial oil. Reason being - you can benefit from the extra boost of hydration, no matter the season or day. When it comes to skin oils, like our BESTSELLER Dew Drops Serum, when we formulated this product, we chose ingredients that actually benefit the skin and the natural oils we have. Our Dew Drops Serum actually mimics our natural sebum (skin oils) by balancing them out. With continued use, you will start to notice a difference and build up a relationship to skin oils. Yes, if you are naturally a combination/oily skin type, you can still use facial oils - it comes down to proper skincare routine and knowing what will work for you and your skin!
